2024 Fantasy Outlook
Soriano emerged as a key piece of the Angels' bullpen after his first big league promotion last June. The 25-year-old right-hander posted a solid 3.64 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 56:23 K:BB over 42 innings. The Dominican native actually finished second on the team with 15 holds despite appearing in just 38 games. Soriano features four pitches, headlined by a curveball that he threw 41 percent of the time with great success. His sinker and fastball clocked in between 96 and 99 miles per hour, while his slider generated the 2nd-highest whiff rate in the league (62.5 percent) for that pitch type despite not throwing it often. With a 30 percent strikeout rate and 50-plus percent groundball rate, there's a lot to like in Soriano's profile, but he'll need to work on his control and limit his free passes (12.4 percent walk rate) to remain in the high-leverage mix. Excellent in win over Rangers
Soriano (2-4) allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out five over 7.2 innings to earn the win Sunday over the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Soriano gave up a solo home run to Corey Seager in the fourth inning, but that was it. The Angels rallied ahead in the seventh to help Soriano earn his second win in 10 appearances (eight starts) this year. The right-hander has given up just five runs over 23.2 innings across his four appearances in May while posting a 20:8 K:BB in that span. For the year, he's at a 3.30 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 43:22 K:BB through 46.1 innings. The walk rate remains a concern, but Soriano is showing improvement in that regard. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Guardians.
