Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Stefanic has appeared in 25 big-league games in each of the past two seasons, and he fared much better last year with a .735 OPS compared to the .509 OPS he posted in 2022. He spent most of 2023 at Triple-A Salt Lake, where he had a .365/.463/.467 slash line with five home runs and eight steals in 99 contests. Stefanic has strong contact skills and plate discipline, and those traits have shown up during his brief time in the majors with a 14.3 percent strikeout rate and 9.3 percent walk rate. He'll have a decent chance to make the Angels' Opening Day roster as a utility infielder thanks to his versatility, but Stefanic's lack of power and speed mean he's unlikely to contribute much in fantasy outside of a strong average. Read Past Outlooks
Begins rehab assignment
Stefanic (quadricep) began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Monday, starting at second base and playing three innings while going 1-for-2 with an RBI.
ANALYSIS
On the mend from a left quad strain since late February, Stefanic has reached the final stage of his recovery program now that he's back playing in minor-league games. Since he's been out of commission for nearly two and a half months, Stefanic will presumably stick around in Arizona for a few more games before continuing his rehab at one of the Angels' higher-level affiliates. Once the Angels are confident that he's regained his timing at the plate and has put the quad injury in the rear-view mirror, Stefanic could return from the 60-day injured list around when he's first eligible in late May. He'll likely be ticketed for a utility role once he's reinstated, though Stefanic has a minor-league option remaining and could be sent to Triple-A Salt Lake if the Angels don't have room for him on the big-league roster.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Stefanic has been an on-base machine for the past two years in the minors, posting a .408 OBP over 125 games in 2021 and increasing that mark to .418 in 81 games last season. He didn't do much during a 25-game cup of coffee in the majors, slashing .197/.279/.230 across 69 plate appearances, though he affirmed his solid contact skills with a 17.4% strikeout rate. Stefanic flashed some power for the first time with 16 homers in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League in 2021 but dropped to four long balls last season, and his first-percentile average exit velocity while up with the big club doesn't suggest much potential in that department in the majors. The comparisons to teammate David Fletcher are obvious, as both players are extreme contact hitters with little power and below-average speed. Like Fletcher, Stefanic can play multiple positions across the infield; that should help his chances of gaining a roster spot, though there doesn't appear to be a clear path to significant big-league at-bats next season. At best, Stefanic could eventually function as an AVG/OBP stabilizer, but the lack of additional skills make him an unexciting fantasy option.
