2024 Fantasy Outlook
The right-hander made his MLB debut for Arizona last season and posted a solid 4.33 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB across 27 innings while working as a swingman. Cecconi otherwise exclusively worked as a starter at Triple-A Reno but scuffled to a 6.11 ERA in 23 outings. He has plenty of prospect pedigree as the 33rd overall pick of the 2020 Draft but hasn't put up notable numbers in the minor leagues. Cecconi should compete for a spot in the Diamondbacks' rotation during spring training and will likely make some starts at some point even if he misses the Opening Day roster, but he seems unlikely to be a reliable back-end starter. RANKSFrom Preseason
Poor showing Monday
Cecconi (1-4) took the loss Monday versus the Dodgers, allowing six runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings.
ANALYSIS
Cecconi was partially sheltered Monday by pitching behind opener Joe Mantiply to avoid the top of the Dodgers' order at the start of the game. That proved to be a wise choice, though it ultimately didn't pay off, as Freddie Freeman's grand slam in the third inning off Cecconi was the decisive hit of the game. This is the third time in four outings Cecconi has given up six runs, and the second time this year he's allowed multiple homers -- he also gave up solo shots to Enrique Hernandez and Will Smith. Cecconi has a 6.12 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB over 32.1 innings across six appearances (five starts). He's projected for a much easier home matchup versus the Marlins his next time out.

2021 Fantasy Outlook
Arizona popped Cecconi with the No. 33 overall pick last year and he already looks like one of the steals of the draft. The draft-eligible sophomore started working out 5-6 days per week when the U of Miami's season was cancelled in March. He added muscle to his 6-foot-4, 224-pound frame while improving his changeup and curveball. His mid-90s fastball and mid-80s slider were already plus pitches in college, and he showed up to the alternate training site pumping 98 mph from day one. There were concerns about his command and consistency when he was in college, and the 21-year-old righty will set out this year to prove he can maintain his electric stuff over longer outings while holding up over a full season. The team thinks he could move quickly, especially if his curveball and changeup continue to improve. Cecconi has clear frontline upside but won't come with that price tag in most dynasty leagues.
