2024 Fantasy Outlook
A 2022 first-round pick, Dotson had an interesting first two years in the league. As a rookie, he averaged 2.9 catches, 43.6 yards and 0.58 TDs in 12 games. Last year, Dotson played all 17 games and again averaged 2.9 catches but made far fewer big plays (he averaged only 30.0 yards and 0.24 TDs per game). Part of the issue was poor coaching and QB play, though that was perhaps true both seasons and doesn't necessarily explain the drop off between Years 1 and 2. Dotson will now have his third offensive coordinator and third different Week 1 starting QB in as many seasons, with Kliff Kingsbury and Jayden Daniels leading a new-look Washington offense. The team certainly seems to be counting on Dotson as a starter, with Curtis Samuel departing for Buffalo this offseason and not being replaced by an early draft pick or comparable veteran. Terry McLaurin returns as the No. 1 target, with everything else up for grabs and thus providing Dotson with an opportunity at redemption. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Concludes disappointing 2023
Dotson finished 2023 with 49 catches for 518 yards and four touchdowns on 83 targets.
ANALYSIS
Dotson had more yards (523) and touchdowns (seven) as a rookie in 2022 despite missing five full games and having his snaps limited in two others. He didn't miss any games in his sophomore campaign, but nearly everything else was a disappointment, including his target volume (4.9 per game) and efficiency stats (59.0 percent catch rate, 10.6 yards per catch, 6.2 yards per targe). His catch rate barely rose compared to 2022 -- even though his aDOT sunk from 13.5 to 9.3 -- and his yards after catch (YAC) average dropped from 3.9 to 2.4 (usually it rises when a player sees more short passes and fewer long ones). The main positives here are that Dotson never got benched, playing 82.2 percent of Washington's snaps on offense, and may now head into his third NFL season with a new head coach and new starting quarterback. The 2022 first-round pick nonetheless figures to come off the board much later in 2024 fantasy drafts than he did this past summer, with the down season in Year 2 casting serious doubt upon his future.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Excited to play with Daniels
Dotson believes he will benefit from improved quarterback play in 2024, and he revealed Tuesday that he had been hoping the Commanders would draft Jayden Daniels all along, per Grant Gordon of NFL.com "He's great," Dotson said of Daniels.. "I don't know if I can say this, but that's the quarterback that I wanted."
ANALYSIS
Dotson and Daniels trained together in 2022 before the receiver was drafted by the Commanders in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft and the quarterback transferred to LSU. Dotson showed promise with seven touchdown catches in 12 games as a rookie, but he regressed to four touchdowns in 17 games in 2023 while also seeing his yardage total drop. The Commanders are hoping Daniels will provide stability under center after Carson Wentz, Taylor Heinicke, Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett all had stints as the team's top quarterback during Dotson's first two NFL seasons.

2022
The 16th overall pick in 2022, Dotson scored four TDs in his first four games before missing the next five with a hamstring injury and doing next to nothing his first three weeks after returning. Everything then clicked down the stretch, with the Penn State product averaging 4.2 catches for 68.8 yards and 0.6 TDs on 7.0 targets the final five weeks. He finished the year at 14.9 YPR and 8.6 YPT, and the way he did it wasn't what you'd expect from a guy who'd run a 4.43 40 at 178 pounds. While his speed was a factor, Dotson also thrived on contested balls, including a bunch of plays where he got open and then had to come back to catch an imperfect pass from Carson Wentz or Taylor Heinicke. The plan this year is for fellow second-year pro Sam Howell to join Dotson in the lineup at quarterback, with Jacoby Brissett the backup plan. Terry McLaurin remains a strong favorite to lead the team in targets, but it could be close after Dotson had a 35-34 advantage the final five weeks last year. There's room for both to stay busy, even with Curtis Samuel as a strong No. 3, considering the Commanders don't have a serious receiving threat at tight end for new OC Eric Bieniemy.
