2024 Fantasy Outlook
Mostert can't keep this up forever with age 32 arriving in April, but if anything the former Boilermaker and 49er appeared spry in 2023. Mostert's trademark speed seemed fully intact as he blasted his way to 1,012 rushing yards and 21 total TDs (18 rushing) on just 209 carries, though knee and ankle troubles late in the year served as another reminder that he's not built to be a workhorse. It might be easier for Mostert to stay healthy for 17 games if he saw something more like 180 carries instead of 209, and at the very least the Dolphins would ideally get to the playoffs before risking overworking him. The emergence of fellow burner back De'Von Achane gives the Dolphins an obvious way to manage Mostert's workloads, with fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright (also a lighting bolt) providing a backup plan in case Achane struggles with injuries again. Mostert won't be able to match last year's TD total and may also lose more work to Achane this year, but the efficient rushing in a well-designed offense figures to continue, giving the 32-year-old a degree of fantasy value even if he's Miami's 1B rusher instead of 1A. Happy with added backfield depth
Mostert said Tuesday he's "excited" to have rookie fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright join himself and De'Von Achane in Miami's backfield in 2024, Nick Shook of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert said he's "excited to have [Wright] here and try to coach him up, try to help him out within this offense." The 32-year-old Mostert and the 22-year-old Achane are clearly the top dogs of the Dolphins' rushing attack after both had extremely efficient seasons in 2023, likely leaving Wright to begin his career as a third-string option, with veteranJeff Wilson potentially on the outside looking in. Of course, neither Mostert or Achane boast ideal profiles for a heavy workload, so Wright could find himself earning opportunities earlier than usual for a No. 3 option. All three of Mostert, Achane and Wright boast atypical explosiveness, so it's possible that head coach Mike McDaniel's scheme could manage to deploy each back relatively interchangeably.

Gets extra year on deal
Mostert restructured his contract with the Dolphins on Friday and is now signed through 2025, Marcel Louis-Jacques and Adam Schefter of ESPN report.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's restructured deal is worth $9.075 million according to Schefter and comes in the wake of the veteran running back's career-best 2023 season. Mostert rushed for a career-high 1,012 yards and posted a franchise-record 18 rushing touchdowns among 21 total touchdowns across 15 games last season, and he's once again slated to split carries with speedy second-year back De'Von Achane in 2024.

It's unclear whether Mostert will ever hold up to a substantial workload -- he hasn't played a full season since 2019 -- but his skill set is a perfect fit with coach Mike McDaniel's scheme, just as it was under Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco when McDaniel was first the run game coordinator and then offensive coordinator. McDaniel quickly committed to Mostert as Miami's lead back last season, even after the front office signed Chase Edmonds to a bigger contract in free agency. McDaniel discarded Edmonds after three weeks, from which point Mostert ran away with the starting role. Miami's pass-heavy offense didn't work Mostert too heavily -- his season high in carries was just 18, and he got single-digits seven times -- but Mostert's 4.9 YPC partially offset that. The question for this season is the workload split between Mostert, Jeff Wilson and rookie third-round pick Devon Achane. Each offers something a little different, and none projects as a true workhorse, but Mostert's strong 2022 and prior history with McDaniel give reason to consider him the 1A.
